Irene Dahl – Funeral Director/Owner

I was born and raised in funeral service, growing up in Billings, MT, the 7th child to Bernard and M’lis Dahl. My father Bernard was a second-generation funeral director owning Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings as well as the funeral home in Bozeman. I have been serving families in Montana since I was old enough to push a vacuum and a snow shovel. I went to college at Montana State University Billings and Bozeman as well Kansas City Kansas Community College for my Mortuary Science Credentials. I did take a 10-year break from death care to manage fine dining restaurants, from being a Maître D Hotel at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park to restaurant and bar management for Marriott in Anaheim, California, and the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel in Seattle, returning to Montana and Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings in 1991. In 1993 I moved to Bozeman to work at our family’s Bozeman location.

In 1997, I married the love of my life Mark Peterson, became a licensed funeral director, and became an owner in the family funeral business. Mark and I have been working together for over 23 years and yes, we are still married!!!!

I love being a part of the Gallatin County Community, Mark and I love being part of the fabric that makes it one of the best places to live on the planet. When I am not caring for families or working with my team, I hope to be outside with my husband, our dogs Misty and Freya, or with a sibling, friend, or cherished team member, either hiking, fishing, skiing, cross country skiing, kayaking the rivers, backpacking, or enjoying a community event or fund raiser. My community involvement includes Rotary, past president of the noon Rotary Club, Dog Ball Chair for the Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter’s main fund raiser, Bozeman Chamber Green Coat as well as a former Board Chair for the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce. Past president of the Montana Funeral Directors Association, and I am currently serving as a district governor for the SW district.

My role at Dahl Funeral & Cremation Service is to set the overall tone of our mission, it has been my ministry, my life’s work to create an environment of true care and support for the families who have called on us to help when they have lost someone they love. I am most proud of the team we work with and call family. I am so blessed to work with such a loving dedicated group of individuals; I truly love them.
