Thomas Earl Baker

Thomas Earl Baker, 87, passed away at home in Bozeman, MT the morning of July 20, 2026, with his wife of 62 years Betty at his side. Born August 18, 1938, in Bozeman to Chet and Irene Baker, he grew up in the valley and graduated from Gallatin High School in 1957. That same year he enlisted in the Navy where he earned his electricians certificate in San Diego and deployed on the USS Pawcatuck, a fleet oiler supporting carrier groups in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Oceans.

After his 4 years in the Navy he was honorably discharged, returned to Bozeman for work and also began dating Betty Bridgewater. They were married March 7, 1964, and later moved to Seattle to follow his employment with Montronics, and later, John Fluke Manufacturing. Returning to Bozeman in early 1966, he began a career in the trucking industry as a pick-up and delivery driver with Garrett Freight lines that would span 25 years and support his wife and 2 sons. He later worked in distribution and retail before retiring.

Tom enjoyed sports, playing softball, pitching horseshoes, playing golf and being outdoors. His bowling career spanned over 50 years and earned him membership in the Gallatin USBC Hall of Fame. Tom and Betty were also longtime fans of MSU athletics and season ticketholders for football and basketball.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Chet and Irene, sister Dorothy, brothers Joe and Ronald, sister in law Judy Henry and daughter in law Jenelle Baker. He is survived by his wife, Betty, sons Monte (Brenda) Baker, Wayne (Carolyn) Baker, granddaughter Maggie Baker, brother Donald (Noralyn) Baker, brother in law Steve Henry, sister in law Ilene (Denis Bordeaux) and several nieces and nephews.

Remembrance of Tom’s life will be held at Dahl Funeral Home, 300 Highland Blvd, Bozeman, MT on Friday, August 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
