Shane Derek Frantz

Shane Derek Frantz 56 years old was born in Bozeman, Montana on November 25, 1969. He passed on to begin his new eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 24, 2026 in Bozeman, Montana after battling a long term illness. He is survived by his parents Orill and Linda Frantz of Bozeman, MT; brother, Jeff Torgrimson (Ossie) of Visalia, CA; sisters, Shawna Brenner (Tyler) of Gallatin Gateway, MT and Laurie Novotny (Mike) of Belgrade, MT; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Shane graduated from Belgrade High School in 1988. In 1990 he was accepted into the Montana Law Enforcement Academy. After graduating he began his law enforcement career as a resident deputy in Big Sky, Montana for the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office. After time spent in Big Sky he returned to Bozeman and continued on with earning the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and retired as a captain in June 2022 after 32 years of service. During his career in law enforcement he had many significant achievements including attending and graduating from the FBI National Academy in 2005, detective training, hiring and promotion officer, Special Response Team, Search and Rescue coordinator and lead firearms instructor.

Shane spent any free time he had playing his guitar and singing. One of his favorite things to do was gather around the campfire and have sing-a-longs with his friends and family. He loved the outdoors. Riding his 4-wheeler with his dog Wyatt running alongside up the wash in Arizona hunting birds. Fishing and hunting were a huge passion of his as well as playing golf. He watched movies over and over and was famous for using their “one liners” during conversations.

Shane was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all of us that loved him.

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 5th at 10am at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Bozeman, MT.
