Roger Ellsworth Blossom

d. July 13, 2024

Roger Ellsworth Blossom, 85, of Bozeman, MT, passed away on July 13, 2024, of natural causes.

Roger was born October 11, 1938, in Great Falls, MT, the eldest of three children to the late Gordon and Marion Blossom. He spent his youth growing up in Lewistown, MT, where he attended primary school and graduated from Fergus High School in 1956. Upon graduating he enlisted in the United States Air Force for 4 years of service. He spent much of that time at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. He was a member of the U.S.A.F. rifle team and being the marksman he was, set a world record, shooting a perfect score with an open sights M1 rifle. Later, he was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado. It is there that he met his future wife, Norma Irene Baehler at a U.S.O. dance. They married in 1960, and he returned to Montana with her to raise a family and build a life together.

After returning to Montana, Roger enrolled at Montana State University. There he earned a degree in Civil Engineering and went to work for the Montana State Highway Department, designing and building many of the roads and bridges we travel on today. Roger was an avid hunter and fisherman and consistently out fished anyone who went along with him. He was a life member of the N.R.A. and spent much of his free time at the gun range honing his skill with firearms. He was also a scale model enthusiast from childhood throughout his adult life focusing on WWII aircraft and Historic sailing ships - his attention to detail was impeccable. Roger had many more hobbies that he excelled at like oil painting, bowling and archery to name a few.

Roger was a pillar of strength for his family, and a trusted friend and mentor. He was always there to help when need be; through thick and thin he could be counted upon to assist in any way possible. He was loved and will be sorely missed by his friends and family.

Roger is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Irene Blossom; and parents, Gordon and Marion Blossom. He is survived by his son, Roger C. Blossom; daughter, Tabrina D. Blossom; grandchildren, Stephen Blossom, Jeffrey Blossom, and Cynthia Blossom; great-grandchildren, Alethea Blossom and Corbin Hove; sister, Sharon Fitzsimmons; and brother, Rodney Blossom.
