Robert Thomas Savage, Jr., 79, of Belgrade, passed away on May 24, 2026. He was born on June 17, 1946, to Robert and Minerva Savage in Charlotte, NC.
Robert grew up in Chapel Hill and Winston-Salem, NC. He attended Bishop McGuinness High School and earned his B.S. in Accounting, B.A. in Political Science, and MBA through studies at UNC Chapel Hill, UNC at Greensboro, and Wake Forest University Graduate School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War.
On May 16, 1971, Robert married Elizabeth “Betsy” Whitaker in Kinston, NC. Throughout his life, he lived in North Carolina, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia, and Montana. His professional career included positions at Peat Marwick, Integon, American Mutual Fire, and Amerisure, and he eventually became self-employed with Prime Fortress Management. He was an avid fan of ACC sports, football, and basketball.
Robert is survived by his wife, Betsy; children, Andra (Mike) Carlson of Alpharetta, GA, Jennifer (Edward) Hanson of Belgrade, MT, Jessica (Maurice) Broer of Enschede, Netherlands; and three grandchildren, Michael Carlson, Jr, Caroline Carlson, and Anna Hanson. He is also survived by his siblings, Carmen (Grady) Dixon of Richmond, VA, Michael (Mahi) Savage of Annandale, VA, and Ronald (Tammy) Savage of Chapel Hill, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Thomas Savage, Sr. and Minerva Yoos Savage, and his brother, Dennis David Savage.
A private cremation has taken place. Robert will be laid to rest at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, NC.
