Mildred Boylan

Mildred Schaplow Boylan passed from this life to a better one on Sunday, March 23, 2008. Mildred was born on June 3, 1917 in Olivia, Minnesota. She spent her first two years on the Olivia area and then moved to Ryegate, Montana where her father and mother homesteaded. Her brother Milton was born a year later. The family lived in Ryegate until about 1932 when the depression forced them to move to the Gallatin Valley. They settled on a farm near the old Fowler School where they lived in a stone house that is still standing today. Mildred was a very bright girl and graduated at the age of 16 from Gallatin County High School. She attended Montana State College for two years and then went to work for the Home Economics Department until she fell in love with Paul Boylan Sr. They were married in Seattle, Washington on August 1, 1942. During the war, Mildred and Paul Jr. lived with Margaret and JoAnne Hicks on S. 5th Ave while Paul served as a Captain in the US Army in the Burma, China, India Theater. After World War II Paul and Mildred settled on a farm on what is now South 19th Avenue where they raised their three children and a menagerie of different animals. The Boylans started a dairy where they bottled and sold milk from their Holstein Cows. Many people in the valley still remember the Boylan#8217;s Dairy Bar. Angus Cattle were also raised on the ranch. The whole family was very involved in the Angus business through 4H and the American and Montana Angus Associations. Mildred was very involved in the community. She was a very active member of Hope Lutheran Church, Mary#8217;s Circle, Country Home Demonstration Club, Legislative Wives, The Angus Auxiliary, Mad Gals, as well as the Bobcat Booster Club, the Museum of the Rockies, the Pioneer Museum, and served on the Board of Directors of the Montana Winter Fair for 25 years and is a member of the Winter Fair Hall of Fame. She loved to play bridge with her many friends and enjoyed accompanying Paul on his many political journeys. Mildred Boylan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, and son-in-law Denny Dehmer. She is survived by her brother Milton (Peggy) Schaplow, her son Paul Jr. (Margaret) Boylan of Bozeman, daughters, Linda (James) Barker of Glen Ivy, California, and Debbie Dehmer of Bozeman. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Boylan, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, March 28 from 4:00pm. #8211; 8:00pm., at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 29 at 1:00 pm. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Hope Lutheran Church Building Fund, 210 S.
