Marylin Roys

July 2, 1932 — September 3, 2008

Marylin L. Roys, 76, of Bozeman Marylin was born July 2, 1932 in Tripp, South Dakota, a daughter to Edward and Mary (Hupka) Lang, and died peacefully with her family present, after a short, yet chronic, illness on September 3, 2008. Marylin was raised in South Dakota and Nebraska, and graduated from Howells High School in Howells, NE. Following Marylin#8217;s graduation from high school, she followed her sister Darlene to the Gallatin Valley. They both became telephone operators back when operators sat at a switchboard and manually connected calls together. Marylin then married the love of her life, Rod Roys, on July 11, 1953 in Billings, MT followed by a honeymoon in Red Lodge, MT. Together they made a life together in Bozeman raising two children, Deb and Dan. The family stayed close by spending quality time together especially enjoying the camping and snowmobile trips. After a retirement too early in life, Marylin and Rod built a home on Flathead Lake, soon longed for their family and friends back in Bozeman, and moved #8220;home.#8221; Marylin worked as a telephone operator (both with #8220;Ma Bell#8221; MSU), she then worked as a #8220;roving#8221; secretary in various departments at MSU, and also worked the concession counter at Bridger Bowl for several winters. Until a few weeks ago she had been the registrar at the Pioneer Museum. She absolutely loved this work and her time spent taking care of donations and memorials for the Museum. Marylin was an avid golfer (and was proud to boast of her hole in one). She loved golfing with her girlfriends at Bridger Creek Golf Course (which she continued until a few weeks ago) as well as her golf vacations with Rod in their fifth-wheel camper. In years past, she also enjoyed many snowmobile adventures with their family and friends. Marylin#8217;s biggest ( simplest) joy was spending time with her family. Marylin will be remembered by those closest to her as a talented #8220;bargain#8221; shopper, a golfer with the straightest drive, and a gal always #8220;comfy#8221; in her cute, warm sweatshirts. Marylin was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Carole, and step-great grandson, Quinton. Survivors include her husband Rod; daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Brian Gertiser; son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Nancy Roys; grandchildren Dustin (Seine) Tucker, Danika and Baxter Roys, all of Bozeman; step-sons Neil Gertiser of San Antonio, TX, and Keith (Marta) Gertiser of Gulf Port, MS; great grandson, Cale Thomas Tucker of Bozeman; step-great grandchildren, Ayden and Annabelle Gertiser, of Gulf Port, MS; two sisters Darlene (Ed) Monforton of Bozeman and Sharon Burger of Lincoln, NE; two brothers Robert (Miriam) Lang of Billings, MT and Raymond Lang of Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, September 8, 2008 at Dahl Funeral Chapel, with interment following at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to the Pioneer Museum, 317 West Main Street, Bozeman, MT 59715 or the Bozeman Deaconess Hospice c/o of the Bozeman Deaconess Foundation, Suite 3200, 935 Highland Blvd, Bozeman, MT 59715.
