Margaret Marie (Davis) Tate, 92, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026 surrounded by many family members. Many tears, so many tears followed as we lost a beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt who was a remarkable woman. Mom was beautiful inside and out, both with her love and generosity to not only her family but to anyone she met. Her home was open to all.
Born August 19, 1933 on the kitchen table on the ranch outside of Townsend, she was raised in Townsend along with her sister Patricia by her mother Mary Gail with the help of her adored grandparents, Mom and George. In her junior year of high school, they relocated to Bozeman where she attended Gallatin County High School where she met her husband George. Married in 1951, they started their love affair for 67 years until Dad's death in 2018. In the ensuing years she raised seven kids, worked outside the home and then helped raise many, many more. Always offering her help and volunteering to many organizations that included her beloved church, Forrester's, Lions Club and the school, to name a few. Truly, her hobbies were her family, friends and crossword puzzles where she patiently taught to some of her grandchildren.
Mom was preceded in death by her loving husband, George, parents including step-father Howard A.H. Fieldsteel, parents-in-law, sister Pat, one grandson, Christopher, and many dear family and friends. She is survived by her seven children, John Tate (Pamela) of Bozeman, Jerry Tate of Knoxville, TN, Charles Tate (Laurie) of Bozeman, Robin Tate of Bozeman, Robert Tate (Shari) of Helena, Gail Huls (Dale) of Bozeman and George Tate of Bozeman, 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Mom, you are now with your Blessed Virgin Mary who comforted you through all trying times of raising us. Rest now Mom in the loving arms of Dad enjoying the laughter he brought.
