Karen R Rogers

Karen Ruth Rogers, 81, of Belgrade, MT, passed peacefully in her sleep September 26, 2023, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital following a brief illness.

Karen was born on December 27, 1941, in Bozeman, MT, to William and Marjorie Townsend. She attended Monforton School and Bozeman Senior High School, graduating in 1960. She studied art for two years at Montana State College. Karen was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. Karen became engaged to Jack O. Rogers on July 1, 1964, and they were married on December 29, 1964. Karen joined Jack in California in 1965. Her son, Bill, was born in 1966, followed by Bryon in 1969. Karen was a wonderful Navy wife until Jack retired from the service in 1978. Upon Jack’s retirement, they moved back to Montana, living on Quaws Avenue in Belgrade for 45 years.

Karen was employed by the Belgrade Public Library for eleven years. In 1987 she was named as Belgrade’s Outstanding Citizen. She was an avid photographer, having some of her wildlife photographs published in Montana Outdoors. For many years she made picture calendars through her Roadside Photography business. Karen studied family genealogy for many years, researching both the Rogers and Townsend families dating back centuries.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Rogers; her parents; a brother, Roger; sister-in-law, Delores; mother-in-law, Gertie (Gaylord) Hutchins; and father-in law, Heber Rogers. She is survived by her brother, Bill (Beverly) Townsend, of Bozeman; sons, Bill (Katrina) Rogers, of Belgrade, and Bryon (Sheila) of Bozeman; grandchildren Tom, Lori (Mason) Hanson, David, Shoma (Melinda), and Harold; five great-grandchildren; several nephews and a niece, and special nieces Liz Townsend and Cathy (Bill) Rogers, with grandnephew Stuart, and numerous cousins;also her dear friend Wally, and other friends too numerous to mention.

Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Karen at a funeral service Saturday, October 7, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Dahl Funeral & Cremation Service, 300 Highland Boulevard, Bozeman. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
