Joseph Victor Thill, long-time resident of Bozeman Montana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 27th at the age of 95.
Joe was the youngest of three children born to Victor and Anna Thill of Timber Lake, South Dakota. He married his high school sweetheart, Rollene, in 1953. They left South Dakota in 1956 with their first two children, looking for better opportunities. They found Bozeman and knew it was home.
Together, they raised five children. Joe was a devoted family man. He loved spending time outdoors, teaching his kids hunting, fishing, camping and the joy of the outdoors. Many weekends and memories were made in the Gallatin Canyon and Canyon Ferry. He was employed by the City of Bozeman and retired in 1988 as the City Street Department Superintendent.
Joe and Rollene shared 61 years of marriage until her passing from Alzheimer’s in 2014. He provided care for her throughout her illness.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Rollene, parents Victor and Anna Thill, sister Mary Ann Wilson, and brother John Thill.
Joe is survived by his five children: Marsha, Bozeman; Marvin, (Marianne) Snohomish, Wa.: Leland, (Renee) Bozeman; Roger, (Julie) Boulder City, Nevada and Rodney, (Marcy) Deer Park, Wa.; his 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 12 step great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family.
