James Russell Kirk, 86, of Bozeman passed away Friday, February 2, 2018. Jim was born December 18, 1931 in Kansas City, MO to Dorothy (Ratliff) and Minor Kirk.
Jim was raised in Kansas City and earned a degree from Kansas State University. While at KSU he also was in ROTC. He then went on to serve in the ARMY until 1956. Following his military career, he was a grain elevator superintendent for many years. He managed grain elevators in Marion, OH, Gibson City, IL, Chattanooga, TN, Bellevue, OH and Red Wing, MN.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. Jim enjoyed woodworking, fishing, reading, and history.
Jim and DiAnna were married on January 19, 1991. They moved to Bozeman in 2011 to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara (Santry) Kirk and his daughter, Kathleen.
Survivors include his wife DiAnna of Bozeman and four step-children, his children, Jim (Vicki) Kirk Jr. of Red Wing, MN, Karen Kirk of Eden Prairie, MN, his sister Ann (Kirk) Sandler of Overland Park, KS, 16 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held February 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Bible Church in Bozeman, MT, in the Fireside Room.
