Gretchen Housser Lundberg, 73, passed away peacefully on January 15th , at home in Bozeman.
She was born on August 6, 1952 in Vancouver, British Columbia to Signe and David Housser. After graduating from Magee High School in 1970 she worked as a receptionist and secretary for Kerr Steamship Company in Vancouver. She later worked in sales and marketing for several companies. She also worked with her husband selling health products and most recently worked part-time as editor for Heavenlight Press, publisher of spiritual books.
She married Carl David Lundberg in 1989. They lived in Emigrant, Livingston and other places throughout the years including Tucson, AZ, Dripping Springs, TX and different towns in David’s native state of Connecticut.
She and David traveled to Nepal and India four times. Other travels included driving through Europe twice, visiting Uruguay, Ecuador, Hawaii, and two Caribbean cruises. She also enjoyed breaking up Montana winters by going to Florida or California.
Gretchen was active in her church as a lay sister, and gave numerous lectures in western states on spiritual topics. She also enjoyed being an usher, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Her greatest love was simply to help other people who needed assistance, giving her time and also her money as required. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her fun-loving, sparkling personality.
Gretchen loved the water and enjoyed swimming kayaking and taking nature walks. She especially loved her dog Luke, as well as a succession of cats. She enjoyed taking care of her plants and feeding and watching birds.
Gretchen is survived by her husband David, her step son Matthew Van Norden, adopted son Dorje Lama of Kathmandu, Nepal, her brother David and sister-in-law Therese, sister Signe, nephew Matthew and niece Melissa Housser and numerous cousins.
A cremation service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 19th , at Dahl Funeral Home at 300 Highland Blvd, Bozeman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ARC (Adolescent Resource Center) in Bozeman that helps teens struggling with substance abuse.
She will be deeply missed.
