Elaine H Livers

April 10, 1926 — January 29, 2024

Bozeman

Elaine Livers, 97, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024. She was born Elaine Hammerstrom on April 10, 1926, in her grandmother’s house in Rosebud, Montana, to Oscar and Edith (Halliday) Hammerstrom. As a young child, she attended several schools in Montana and Wyoming. The family moved permanently to East Helena in 1936, and Elaine graduated from Helena High in 1944.

Elaine went on to attend college at MSC (now MSU), majoring in Bacteriology (now Microbiology), and was a proud member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She met Gallatin High graduate, Carlos Livers, during their first college semester. They married after his return from the Navy in 1946 and continued their education. They had three children, Linda, Susan, and Tom.

After teaching high school math in Roundup for several years, Carlos took a job with Boeing in Seattle. Five years later he transferred into Boeing’s Apollo Saturn Project. They all enjoyed the adventure, living five years in New Orleans, followed by six years in the Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area of Florida. It was amazing to view launches on the Cape from their back yard. In 1973, Elaine and Carlos moved back to the Seattle area for another 25 years.

Elaine was always involved with her children’s school activities and was a hospital volunteer wherever she lived, such as Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, and Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue, Washington. For decades she enjoyed bowling in women’s leagues with friends and mixed leagues with Carlos wherever they lived. They also enjoyed many bridge parties with friends and relatives.

In 1989 Carlos suffered a severe stroke and Elaine became his caregiver for the next 13 years. In 1998 they returned to live in Bozeman. Carlos passed away in 2002. Seven years later Elaine moved to Aspen Point for only 11 months. After an unexpected, debilitating neurosurgery, she transferred to Birchwood. In April of 2023 Elaine moved to Gallatin Rest Home. She looked forward to visiting with all who stopped by and always asked where they had grown up. She loved trivia, 40’s music, old tv shows, and she worked crossword and sudoku puzzles as long as she was physically able to do so.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Carlos; her parents, Oscar, and Edith; brothers, Ralph Hammerstrom, Frank Hammerstrom; sister, Helen Cosner; and daughter-in-law, Ellen Livers.

Elaine is survived by children, Linda Monson (Gene) of Bozeman, Susie Sailer (Bruce) of Livingston, and Tom Livers, of Helena; grandchildren, Josh Brown (Erin), Michael Monson (Elizabeth), Rebekah Brown Southard (Erik), Jennifer Brown Atkinson (Christopher), Kaci Monson Franklin (Orion), Joe Livers (Ashley), and Sarah Livers Goforth (James); 19 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great grandchildren; 11 nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Lois Jacobson, of Mercer Island, WA, and Marian Livers, of Roseburg, OR.

Services will be announced at a later date.
