Edythe Heeb

January 21, 1911 — February 9, 2007

Edythe J. Heeb Edythe Heeb, 96, of Bozeman, died Friday, February 9, 2007. She was born Jan. 21, 1911, to Frank R. and Julia A. Jakle in Manhattan, MT. Her mother died when Edythe was only 11 years old, leaving her with her father and three older sisters - Etta Celeste (Tess), Zula, and Maude ( all deceased). At age 15, she had to discontinue schooling and went to work in Woolworth#8217;s Dime Store. Although she did not have a high school diploma, she attended business school in Long Beach, California for one year. This served her well many years later, as she became the bookkeeper for Heeb#8217;s Food Center in Bozeman, a grocery store which she and her late husband Earnest Heeb, owned for many years. She and Earnest were married in 1936 in Glendale, California. They returned to Bozeman in 1947. An accomplished professional seamstress, she made and/or altered many pieces of clothing for the ladies of Bozeman, before starting to work with Ernie at the grocery store. Edythe is survived by her daughter, Helen Pletsch, and son-in-law, Robert Pletsch, both of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; a sister-in-law, Montana M. Paige of Long Beach, California, and several nieces and nephews. Edythe will be remembered as a beautiful, kind, generous, charming and very witty lady. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 14 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel with the family present between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 2:00 pm, at First Presbyterian Church, Bozeman. Many thanks to the staff at Mountain View Care Center for their excellent and loving care to both Edythe and Earnest while they were residents there. Also, deep gratitude to all those who visited frequently and offered their care and support. Memorials in Edythe Heeb's name may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 26 West Babcock Street, Bozeman, MT 59715; or to Mountain View Care Center 205 N. Tracy, Bozeman, MT 59715.
