Diane Boisclair Meadows

Diane Boisclair Meadows passed away on Valentines Day, at age 80, due to complications associated with Parkinson’s Disease.

Diane loved the idea of writing her own obituary, but alas that didn’t happen, so we’ll do our best by sharing who she was, not just what she did and where.

Diane loved to make you laugh. She hilariously pushed the edge of what was considered appropriate, like when she told us, “You know, 4 a.m. is the dying time, so if your phone ever rings at that time, you’d better answer.” She was funny, feisty, captivating, beautiful, and complicated. So, for those of you who knew her, raise a glass in her memory.

Born in 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama, Diane lived the majority of her life in South Carolina, with a few stints in other places. She attended AC Flora High School followed by Columbia College, where she studied Art and Spanish.

Diane always hoped for that one great love, and consequently she married three times. Maybe dying on Valentine’s Day was no coincidence! During her first marriage to Drew Rogers, she had Pam and Brian. With her second, to Graham “Mister” DuBose, she had Graham (Jr.) Lastly, she married James (Jim) Gunter, an old friend from high school.

While married to Mister, who raised cattle, Diane threw herself into animal husbandry (the most successful type of husbandry for her). She started raising sheep and her herd grew to be the largest of Dorset sheep in South Carolina.

From a young age, Diane loved animals of all kinds – dogs, horses, cats – everything but snakes and reptiles. In fact, she used to say that you weren’t a “real” South Carolinian until you’d killed your first copperhead with a shovel. Diane may have been raised to be a Southern belle, but she was tougher than most people knew.

She loved to tell the story of befriending a wild raccoon she called Slippy McGee, who eventually made his way into her mother’s kitchen, much to her mother’s fright.

In 2014, Diane learned she had Parkinson’s Disease, and for several years continued her normal life without too much difficulty. In 2021, she moved to Montana, where her daughter Pam lives.

This last year was a tough one and her health deteriorated at a rate that surprised not only her, but all of us.

Diane was incredibly gregarious and social; she loved her children and grandchildren, watching USC Lady Gamecocks basketball, going to the beach, practicing yoga, and flyfishing – among many things.

Diane is survived by her children: Pam (Luke) Omohundro; Brian (Domenic) Rogers; Graham (Sara) DuBose; her grandchildren Charis and Sadie Omohundro, Brooke and Brandon Rogers, and Ford, Wills, and Langston DuBose; her dog, Pippa.

Diane is pre-deceased by her parents, Mary and Martin Meadows; sister Pam; raccoon Slippy McGee; horse Opus; dogs Blue, Kat, Doc… and many others.
