Charles Schlegel II

May 9, 1953 — April 3, 2026

Bozeman

Charles “Charlie” Schlegel II, 72, of Bozeman, passed away on April 03, 2026 in the loving company of friends and family.

Charlie was born on May 09, 1953, in Bozeman, Montana, to Chuck Schlegel and MaryLou (Lester) Schlegel. The oldest of three boys.

Charlie went to work for his father at Chuck’s Auto around the age of 11. There, the experience shaped Charlie’s strong work ethic and lifelong connection to many of his dads customers and friends.

From an early age, Charlie was interested in the latest technology. He was the first among his friends and family to have a car phone and bag phone. His early entrepreneurial endeavor was investing in his own “teen line” in their home. He charged John and Mike $.10 a call. It would have been more profitable, but theft of services was suspected while Charlie was away.

Charlie graduated from Bozeman High School in 1972. He built a career rooted in both automotive sales and real estate, becoming a licensed real estate agent in 1982. He later earned his broker’s license, which he proudly maintained throughout his life.

Charlie had a deep love for people and connection. He especially loved going out to eat with friends and family. Meals rarely lasted less than 3 hours, filled with conversation, laughter, and storytelling as well as “war stories”. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went, leaving a lasting impression on those lucky enough to sit across the table from him. He will be remembered for his stories, loyalty and generosity. His presence will be greatly missed.

A service to honor Charlie’s life will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel on April 28, 2026 at 10am followed by a reception at Audrey’s Pizza and Free Fall Brewery.
