Anne Agnes Gwaltney

March 26, 1927 — January 28, 2024

Bozeman

Anne Gwaltney, 96, of Bozeman passed away on January 28, 2024, at a local care facility. Anne was born on March 25th, 1927, in Butte, MT, to Jack and Mary (Milkolich) Prevetz. The family moved to Cinnabar Basin when she was four, where she attended Cinnabar Basin School until the 8th grade, often skiing to school in the winter. Anne would then attend High School in Livingston at Park High School, while boarding with families. During the summers she would help the neighbors with hay. When she was 16, she worked at the fishing bridge. During her senior year she began working at Woolworths while attending high school, graduating in 1944.

After High School, Anne taught at Beaver Creek School for a short time followed by her attendance at a Business School in Billings. She then returned to work at the bank in Livingston. In the summer of 1947, she went to Spokane to attend business school before moving back to Livingston where she worked in the accounting office at the Northern Pacific Railroad for the next four years.

Fate stepped in during the summer of ’48. Anne met Brownie, the love of her life. They married on October 1, 1949, in Livingston. The two moved to Dillon and finally Helena, where she started working for Mountain Bell. The two bought a property in Lump Gulch around this time. They would do quite a bit of horseback riding, snowmobiling, and square dancing while there.

In 1981, after 29 years, Anne retired from the phone company, and they moved to Wilsall. Anne had a beautiful garden. She would walk many miles on the country roads around the Sedan community. During this time, they also traveled in their motorhome back east to see the fall colors and then west to do a little fishing. Perhaps her most memorable trip was one she made to Yugoslovia in 1999.

Anne is survived by her sister, Florence Taylor of Livingston, as well as many nieces and nephews. She goes on to join both her parents, and beloved husband.

Cremation has been entrusted to Dahl Funeral and Cremation Service. Services will be announced at a later date. Memorials are suggested to The Wilsall Cemetery, C/O Les Arthun, 2057 Hwy 89 N, Wilsall, MT 59086.
