Theresa Schweitzer

December 22, 1920 — October 4, 2008

Theresa Julia Schweitzer, our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was born Dec. 22, 1920 to Gertrude and Michael Schmidt in Berwick, ND. She passed Oct. 4, 2008 in Belgrade, MT of natural causes. At age 18, she moved to Montana to help her older sister Mary with her three young children as they lived on a farm and had a lot of work to do. It was here that she met Mary#8217;s brother in law, Leo. They were joined in marriage Nov. 9, 1940 and farmed north of Rudyard, near Goldstone, near her sister Mary and Leo#8217;s brother, Mike. In 1955, Leo and Theresa built a house in Rudyard so the older children could go to high school there, but they continued to move to the farm during the summer months. Theresa was a homemaker. She loved to sew, crochet, knit, quilt, do hardanger and many other crafts. Her hands were always busy and she loved to make beautiful things. In 1988, she moved to Bozeman to help her daughter, Darla, take care of Breanne and to be near her sister Mary, as they enjoyed doing many of the same things. Included in this friendship was Mary#8217;s daughter Dorothy who also enjoyed the crafts. When Mary passed, Dorothy and Theresa enjoyed many good times and crafts together until Theresa could no longer do them. Our cousin, Dorothy continued to help and support her until her passing. Theresa is survived by her children, Shirley (Dick) Smith, Arlee (Grover) Brown, Gerald (LeAnn) Schweitzer, Kalvin (Karen) Schwetizer, Darla Schweitzer, Verna (Don() Myers, Lenny (Carol) Schweitzer, and Tina (Jeff) Wheeler. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo in 1978, her parents, brothers and sisters Anne, Pius, Nick, Mary, Augustine, and Pauline and many step brothers and sisters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held Oct. 11, 2008, 11 AM with visitation at 10, at Dahl Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to Elsie#8217;s Assisted Living, 1107 Happy Lane, Belgrade, MT 59714 or Rocky Mountain Hospice, 301 Edelweiss Dr, Suites 5 6, Bozeman, MT 59718.
