Suksoon Yoon, 90, of Bozeman passed away on Sunday March 15, 2015 at the Gallatin Rest Home. Suksoon was born in Youngheung, North Korea on June 15, 1924. He had an older sister and brother as well as a younger sister. He married Okbin Ju on October 19th, 1943. In 1949, Suksoon fled to Seoul, South Korea under a wagon shortly before the beginning of the Korean War. His wife and two young children fled in 1951 during the war. They were miraculously reunited in a train station over a year later. Despite several attempts to locate his youngest sister through letter writing, he was unable to determine if she was alive in North Korea or had escaped. Suksoon lived in Seoul, South Korea from 1949 – 1994, and traveled between Seoul and Bozeman between 1994 and 2000. He lived in Bozeman full time with his son for the past 15 years. He was employed as a police officer from 1945 - 1963, worked as a contractor from 1963 – 1977, and between 1978 and 1990, owned a corner store and worked as a realtor. In addition to being actively involved in his church and reading his Bible for several hours daily, he was very involved with associations working with other refugees from North Korea. Suksoon attempted to locate his own family members overseas and, through this work, assisted others in trying to locate their missing family members. He loved raising animals, especially dogs and fish, and enjoyed riding his bike. He is fondly remembered for telling stories and for always being punctual. Suksoon was preceded in death by his wife, Okbin Jun who passed away in 1992, and his oldest son, Seungyong Yoon who passed away in in 1993. Survivors include his son Sooryong and daughter-in-law Kyeseon Yoon of Bozeman, daughter-in-law Yeonja Choi of South Korea, daughter Kyunghwa Yoon and son-in-law Dongmok Chang of South Korea, daughter Kyungja and son-in-law Wonjeong Joo of China, and daughter Kyungseon Yoon and son-in-law Jeonggyu Shin of South Korea; grandchildren Esther and Daniel Yoon, Jumi and Taesoo Choi, Hyein Chang, Yeonjin and Hyungjun Joo, Hyuntaek and Juhye Shin; and four great grandchildren.
