Shirley Mae Beeghly passed away Saturday September 12, 2009 after a brief illness. Shirley was born in Foster County, North Dakota on November 7, 1936. She was the oldest of four children. She grew up around New Rockford on the family farm. Her mother died in childbirth and consequently, she lived with her uncle and aunt in her younger years. After her father, Phillip, remarried she went to live at home. Shirley was educated at home in the early years, and later went to school for two years in New Rockford. She married Lawrence Beeghly on February 1, 1954 and they had one son, Don, born February 10, 1955. She loved to fish and was very competitive on fishing trips. Her favorite fish to catch was Northern Pike. She enjoyed fishing with family and was able to go to Fort Peck one last time this past spring. She also enjoyed boating for the purpose of fishing, camping, cooking huge family dinners and feeding the little song birds that visited her yard. She gardened every year and canned what she grew. Shirley is survived by her husband Lawrence and son Don of Manhattan. She is also survived by her sister Linda of Oklahoma, her brother Willard (Kay) of Idaho, her sister Dorothy of Kansas, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Her parents, Ida and Phillip, preceded her in death. Services will be Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Belgrade Baptist Church at 2:00 pm.
