Robert Urich

Robert #8220;Bob#8221; Urich, 66, of Manhattan passed away Monday, January 3, 2011. Bob was born on August 3, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert and Lillian Urich. He was raised in Johnson County, Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission High School. He attended Kansas State University at Pittsburg, majoring in Political Science. He joined the Navy and was called to duty during the Vietnam conflict, serving as a ship's electronic technician. Bob met his life partner, Virginia Leon Yadrich, and the two were married at St. Peters Cathedral on June 8, 1968 in Kansas City, KS, while Bob was still serving in the Navy. Following his discharge, Bob attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where he earned his Doctorate of Law degree. He had his own law practice until 2001, and upon retiring, Bob and Virginia moved permanently to Montana where they had been living part-time since 1986. He was a member of the Belgrade and Churchill/Amsterdam Planning Boards and the Baker Creek Neighborhood Road Association. He especially liked to build, tinker, tweak, and converse with friends Ralph, Joe, and M.T. Plowing snow in the neighborhood with his tractor and blade was a common sight. Bob also found enjoyment in local activities and celebrations. He sought to explore Montana, especially the small railroad towns with historic significance. Driving through the state brought him great joy. He relished evolving into a true Montanan, embracing the small-town genuine atmosphere provided. He was fond of his animals especially his dog Bunny. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; brother, Skip Urich and his wife Betty of Pittsburgh, KS; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Lancaster and her husband M.T. and Cynthia Eden and her husband Carl of Overland Park KS; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Dahl Funeral Chapel, with Funeral Services to follow at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
