Patricia Gregg

November 10, 1932 — April 28, 2015

Patricia Larrabee Gregg, 82, loving mother, sister, friend, and “Nana” passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Bozeman, MT. Patty was born November 10, 1932 in Houston, TX, to Fred Seth and Donnie Mae (Pearson) Kalar; the third of four children. She was raised in the country near Houston until August of 1943; when they moved to Gentry, AR. In 1945, the family packed up and moved west to Spokane, WA and later to Spangle, WA where the children attended Upper Columbia Academy. During the trip west, the family made a stop in Yellowstone Park and the children remember a scary bear encounter while throwing grapes to the bears out of the car. Tragically, In April of 1948, during her freshman year at Upper Columbia Academy; her Father was killed in a construction accident while building a new gymnasium there. She and her sisters worked to pay for tuition and to remain in the private boarding school. It was here at the Academy that she met Jack Larrabee whom she met, fell in love and would later marry. After graduation in 1951 Donnie Mae moved the family to College Place, WA, where Patty attended Walla Walla College for a short while. She and Jack Larrabee married on August 3, 1952. They had two children, Pamela in 1954 and Mark in 1957. They lived and worked in Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, WA where Jack was self-employed in the log trucking business and Patty worked for a while in the office of Dr. George Thompson. In 1966, Jack and Patty moved the family to the small town of Pierce, Idaho because the opening of the new Potlatch/Jaype plywood mill presented more log trucking opportunities. Many enjoyable memories were made while there of camping and driving to Winchester, Idaho for weekends to visit Jack’s parents Ted and Lenore Larrabee. The couple moved back to Clarkson in 1969. The marriage later ended. Patty worked as a pre-need family services counselor in the funeral business for several funeral homes in Washington and Oregon. Her gracious and kind demeanor was loved and appreciated by all who knew her as a friend and co-worker. She met and married James Gregg on January 5, 1998. They resided in Spokane, WA until his death in 1999. She loved antiques and travel, and completed a 25 day trip from 'Capetown to Cairo” in 2000. In 2006, she moved to Bozeman to be near her daughter, Pam and family. Here she was a care-giver until November of 2013. She gave back to the community by serving as a Gallatin County Election Judge and Hospice Volunteer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harley A. Kalar, and husband James Gregg. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Mark Duffy of Bozeman, her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Ann Larrabee of Sandy, OR; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; two sisters Juanita (Bill) Hunter of College Place, WA, Freida (Homer) Smith of Mill Creek, WA.
