Otho Vale Pace

March 19, 1952 — August 18, 2021

Otho Vale Pace, an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, died suddenly at his home in Belgrade, MT, on August 18, 2021.

Otho was born March 19, 1952, in Paonia, CO. His love and appreciation for hunting and fishing began with his father and brothers in the Gunnison wilderness. He was a son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Otho was a simple man, with a fishing pole in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He filled his days on Pine Creek or Broken Bow Lake just trying to beat his record of a 9.76 lb bass or keep his wife from out-fishing him. He so enjoyed sharing his knowledge of fishing and hunting with his grandkids and basically anyone who would listen.

To all of those that think of me,

Be happy as I go out to sea,

If others wonder why I’m missin’,

Just tell ‘em all, I’ve gone fishin’

He had a life time love-affair with the Denver Broncos, OU Sooners (Boomer!), cottage cheese, chicken fried steak, and western or action movies. However, he had a sweet tooth and got his hand caught in the cookie jar a few too many times but he was the sweetest on his wife.

He was devoted to reading his Bible when he woke up in the morning and before going to bed at night.

God grant that I may live,

To fish until my dying day,

And when the final cast is made,

And life has slipped away,

I pray that gods great landing net,

Will catch me in its sweep,

And in his mercy, god will judge me,

Big enough to keep.

In lieu of flowers and in his honor, go fishing with your family and friends. Thank you all for sharing this life with Otho.
