Norman Dahl

Longtime Alaska resident Norman Norm Hans Dahl age 84 died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at the Anchorage Pioneer Home. A funeral vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the Daly #8211; Leach Chapel in Hamilton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton. Mr. Dahl was born April 1, 1926, in Glendive, Montana. He grew up in Rhame and Bowman North Dakota, graduating from Bowman High School. Dahl#8217;s family earnestly operated restaurants, a rooming house, and taverns, including the Dahl Bar on Main Street in Hamilton. In the late 1940#8217;s Dahl left the University of Montana in Missoula for employment as a brakeman with the Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1950 he went to work on the Alaska Railroad. Norman#8217;s Montana sweetheart Elizabeth Yvonne Lynn Jeszenka joined him in Anchorage and they married December 5, 1951 with a reception at the Jade Room. Norman and his brother, Lloyd, teamed up to operate renowned Anchorage nightclubs including the Montana Club, Malamute Club, Roaring '20s, The Hub, and The Sawmill Club/Rock U. They also participated in the development of Chugach Estates subdivision and owned commercial properties in Mt. View and Government Hill. Dahl particularly enjoyed directing construction projects at his homes on the Hawaiian island of Maui and The Westfork of the Bitteroot River. Norman cherished spending time with his adoring companion and second wife, Anna Marie Fischer, vacationing in Las Vegas, Montana and Cathedral City, CA. Mr. Dahl was active in CHAR and enjoyed power boating, sport fishing, and traveling in his motor home. His family and friends remember a colorful, successful entrepreneur, with a hard work ethic. Norman was especially known for his flamboyant storytelling and generosity. Survivors, all residents of Alaska, include his wife Anna Dahl, daughters and son, Carolyn Castro, Elizabeth Dahl, Charles Dahl, step children and spouses, Bruce Olsen-Smith(Kim), Judi Richards, and Jon Fischer(Maem). Grandchildren Landon and Jennifer Castro, Amber Dahl, Chyna Olsen-Smith, George Gardner, Brittany Richards, and Jonathan Fischer Jr. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lynn, and his brother, Lloyd.
