Michael Joseph Doll

Michael Joseph Doll, 90, of Bozeman, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his home. He was born August 31, 1923 in Mandan, North Dakota. He was the second of three sons. He grew up in Mandan attending St. Joseph Catholic School and Mandan Public High School. During his senior year in high school he enlisted in the United States Army. He was in the Tank Corp and also a Mess Sergeant. He was stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea, earning two Bronze Stars for his service. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Mike attended Wahpeton Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota, where he took automobile painting courses. He later attended Hansen Body School in Fargo. After he began his position in auto body repair he learned he could not tolerate the smell and fumes of paint. He then went to telegraph school following in his brother Fred's footsteps. Following his graduation he was hired on several railroads, finishing his career with Northern Pacific in the Rocky Mountain Division. Mike worked as a telegrapher for the railroad from 1949 to 1983. In June of 1954 he married Frances Molenda. The couple was blessed with four children, Lon, Laura, Kari and Joleen. He was a member of the American Legion Post 14 and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where he was a faithful usher at the 11:00 am Mass each Sunday. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Chris and Fred. Survivors include: his wife Frances; son Lon Michael (Ramona) Doll of Billings, MT; three daughters, Laura (Jon) Cundiff of Tulsa, OK, Kari Doll, and Joleen (Chris) Howell, both of Bozeman, MT; three grandchildren, Navarre Larsen, and Michael and Daniel Howells, all of Bozeman, MT. Visitation will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 5, 2014 followed by a Rosary at 5:30 and a Vigil at 6:00 pm, all at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church followed by interment with military honors at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Holy Rosary Building Fund, 220 W. Main Street, Bozeman, MT 59715.
