Dale Patrick Maroney, 69, died peacefully at home April 27 surrounded by family, after a long, courageous silent battle with carcinoid cancer. Dale was born to John Kenneth and Mary Louise (Isbell) Maroney on February 5, 1939 in Livingston, MT. The family moved to the Springhill area in 1950.He graduated from Holy Rosary High in Bozeman in 1957 and Montana State College in 1961 with a degree in Industrial Arts. He enlisted in the Montana National Guard in 1957 and served for eight years. After a seven year courtship he married his high school sweetheart, Ann Uhlrich on June 7, 1961. Dale taught Industrial Arts for 17 years at Bozeman Junior high School and another 11 years at Bozeman High School. At the same time he had a home construction business which he continued full time after retiring from teaching. He enjoyed collecting and restoring Oldsmobiles and was active in the Bozeman Antique Auto Club. He looked forward every year to driving his 1964 Olds Convertible, loaded down with grandkids, in the Sweet Pea Parade. Throughout his life he raised and worked with horses. In recent years he had a passion for paint horses. He was an avid hunter and treasured that time with his family. In the winter he enjoyed snowmobiling and grooming his sledding hill for the grandkids. He was diagnosed with carcinoid cancer in 2000 and entered a phase 2 clinical trial at the University of Iowa in 2001. In 2005 he travelled to Switzerland for additional treatments. Throughout his long battle, he believed that each day was a gift from God. Dale is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann; sons, Michael (Karin) Maroney and Joel (Karen) Maroney, all of Bozeman; daughter Carolyn (Dan) Nelson of Waterloo, Montana; grandchildren Brittany, Keely and Kimberlyn Maroney, Katie (Dustin) Raymond, Ryan and Krista Maroney, and Justin and Jenna Nelson; great grandson, Ryder Raymond; brothers, Gary Maroney of Butte, and Ron (Betty) Maroney of Belgrade; sisters Annette Boles of Bozeman and Pat (Don) Monforton of Oaksdale, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Vigil will be at 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday May 2, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
