Leo Ziegler

Leo N. Ziegler, 86, passed away at home on March 22, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Leo was born and raised on a farm near Beulah, North Dakota, on March 6, 1922, the second of three brothers and five sisters born to Joseph and Eva (Weiand) Ziegler. He enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Custer, South Dakota, in 1939. He was discharged in 1940, and went to work for NP Railroad as a crew member in Glendive, Montana. He was drafted into the US Army in 1943, and served with the 19th Infantry of the 24th Division in Leyte and Mindanao, Philippine Islands. He was discharged from the Army in 1946 at Fort Lewis, Washington. He returned to Beulah and was employed at the Beulah Farmers Union Elevator Co. In 1965, he and his family moved from Columbus, Montana, to Bozeman where he retired. He was employed in the grain business for over 30 years. Married Josephine Hauck on October 28, 1947 in Beulah and had three sons, Warren, Duane and Dean. He enjoyed camping, bowling, card games, professional baseball, football, walks, and spending time with the neighborhood dogs. He was a member of the Bozeman Senior Center and Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Jo, and two sons and daughter-in-laws, Warren and Tamara and Dean and Mary; one brother, four sisters, five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Duane in 1995. Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment of the urn to follow at Sunset Hills with military rites. Memorials may be sent in his Leo#8217;s name to Heart of the Valley Humane Society, P.O.
