Jean Overstreet

March 11, 1926 — October 5, 2011

Longtime Belgrade resident Jean Overstreet, 85, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Mountain View Care Center. Jean was born March 11, 1926 in Billings to Martin and Janet Crennen. She graduated from Gallatin County High School in 1944. After her marriage to Bob Overstreet on May 18, 1945 they moved to the Flying D Ranch. Jean and Bob loved living and working on the Flying D. Jean really enjoyed fishing on Cherry Creek. She would tell stories of being snowed in for months. They would take a horse and wagon to Salesville once a month for groceries and supplies Jean and Bob bought a ranch north of Belgrade in 1950. Jean was a hard-working Montana woman who loved the ranching lifestyle. She helped with the chores, raised three children and held down two other jobs to support her family and the ranch. She worked at Belgrade State Bank, the Beaumont Supper Club, Lee and Dad's grocery and the Hub Bar. Jean was the bookkeeper at Lee and Dad's Grocery for almost 30 years. She told Jim McMilin that she wasn't going to retire until he bought her a gold watch. He bought her the watch and she still kept working. After retiring at Lee and Dad's, Jean worked as a part-time bookkeeper for the Hub Bar until she was 80. Jean had a great sense of humor and enjoyed giving friends a bad time. She loved to dance, play cards and spend time with your family and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Janet Crennen and her husband Bob. Jean is survived by her three children Kathy (John) Sobrepena of Bozeman, Bobbie (Brent) Bahny of Helena and John of Three Forks; her brother Marty (Marg) of Helena; and her step-son Clark Overstreet of Bozeman. She was blessed with grandchildren Chris (Courtney), Jesse (Poppy), Jessica, Jordan and Justin (Erin) and great-grandchildren Lucy, Natalie and Vaughn. Jean's family would like to thank Dr. King, Rocky Mountain Hospice, Spring Meadows, Hyalite Country Care and Mountain View Care Center for such loving care during her last few months. Our hearts go out to all of her good friends who made her life so special. Memorials and contributions may be made to Rocky Mountain Hospice. At Jean#8217;s request no funeral arrangements were made. A Celebration of Jean#8217;s life will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the River Rock Community Center.
