Herbert John Warp

July 13, 1960 — December 27, 2015

Herbert (Herb) J. Warp unexpectedly passed away December 27, 2015 while visiting family in Bozeman. Herb was born July 13, 1960 in Bozeman to the late Norman Warp and Darlene Warp Hansen. Herb lived in Great Falls in his early years and moved frequently due to his father's engineering work taking him to Bismarck, Billings, Riverton, Wyoming and back to Bozeman. There he graduated in the Class of '78 and went on to get his Bachelor’s Degrees in Geology and Civil Engineering, at Montana State University.

During college, Herb was an active member of Sigma Nu Fraternity holding several officer positions. His fraternity brothers were his true brothers and among lifelong friends. Herb was a member of the Fang’s, MSU Sophomore Honor Society, and also a little brother to the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

Herb’s career included working for the Forest Service in the Bighorn National Forest out of Sheridan, WY, and Washington Group International in mining construction, which lead him to remote locations of Soda Springs, ID, Beatty, NV, Grand Junction, CO, Missoula, MT, Grants, NM, and Leadville and Denver, CO. At the time of his death he was a practicing P.E. Consulting Engineer working in Colorado and Wyoming.

Herb was a loving, gifted, and talented son, brother, father and uncle. Herb had a zeal for life unlike most others, which was heard in his wholehearted laugh. Whatever his passion at the time, he pursued it to the max. At a very early age his love for fishing continued to his last day and included a deep-sea fishing trip he was on last March off the shores of Guatemala. Living in North Dakota it was his love for hockey. Early pre-teen years he developed his talent in band that continued and also helped hone his talent as a pianist. He was a pianist in dance bands in both Wyoming and Montana and had the rare gift of playing by ear. He was especially proud of helping to build a cabin on the family lake property and later engineer the larger lake house. He loved the outdoors, and all family shared that whether it was hunting, skiing or hiking. It was usual for Herb to assist in part or all of the meal preparation with his gourmet talent and love for cooking (and eating!).

Herb was a family man in every sense. With his family he shared memorable week-end gatherings with his aunts, uncles and cousins. He loved and was devoted to his daughters, enjoyed taking them on coastal trips, and was very proud of their college progress. Herb was preceded in death by his father, Norman Warp. Herb is survived by his mother, Darlene Hansen, step-father Wayne Hansen, and sister, Deb Matus of Bozeman and three daughters, Emily Warp, Monica Warp, and Madison Warp of Denver and niece, Sarah Freitas of Bozeman. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins survive Herb. Herb will be sorely missed by all. Memorials in his name may be made to the American Heart Association.
