Helen 'June' Carrig

June 10, 1933 — April 12, 2012

Helen “June” (Foreman) Carrig, 78, of Bozeman passed away at her home on April 12, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. June was born June 10, 1933, to George and Juanita (Andrews) Foreman in the Bracket Creek area of the Bridger Mountains. She attended Bozeman schools growing up and graduated from Gallatin County High School. June married James Carrig on October 23, 1952, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Bozeman. Together the couple lived and worked in Montana, the Dakotas and Wyoming. They started employment for the Federal Government (SCS, BIA), then ranch management for many years for absentee owners, finishing up with the State of Montana at MSU. After they retired, they built her dream house in the Gallatin Valley. For many years, they went calving and branding from the Big Horn to the Dearborn, even running a place on the Ruby for the Von Trapp family. June enjoyed sewing, poetry (especially the annual Christmas card) singing and square dancing, and was a great cook, famous for her lemon meringue pie and spaghetti. She was the ultimate homemaker and loving mother to 2 boys and 3 girls and took great delight in her 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was a 4-H leader, ran the cookhouse, and herded hunters in the fall. June was active in her Catholic faith in several parishes through the years. During their years with MSU, she enjoyed working at the Gift House on Main Street. Her Holiday window display even won the prize a couple of years! June was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert. She is survived by her husband Jim Carrig of Bozeman, her children Kathleen (Richard) Holzer of Stanford, MT; Molly (Frank) Porter of San Antonio, TX; Kevin Carrig of Jefferson, TX; Erin (Russell) Waddington of Custer, MT; Shawn (Ginger) Carrig of Shepherd, MT; sisters Marie (Gene) Quenemoen of Bozeman; Betty (Lynn Ross) Montgomery of Three Forks, and sister-in-law Barb Foreman of Lolo. Memorials may be made in June’s name to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington DC, 20004 or www.lung.org. A service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Bozeman Catholic Community Center.
