Guy Betts

December 25, 1924 — November 2, 2010

Guy Andrew Betts, Jr. passed away on November 2, 2010 at his home in Bozeman. Guy was born on December 25, 1924 in Hardin, Montana to Guy Andrew Betts, Sr. and Ida Mae Lethcoe-Betts. He was the middle child of thirteen. He was raised on a ranch on Sarpy Creek near Hardin, a lifestyle he dearly loved. He served in the Army during the Pacific Campaign with the 11th Division. Returning home, he married Morita Redding of Hardin. He was the proud father of four sons. Later, he married Darlene Mitchell of Absorkee, and they raised two daughters and a son. He worked for Mountain Bell-Qwest for 33 years and also held many positions throughout his life, including ditch riding, rough necking, and many others. He always said, #8220;I never had trouble finding a job. Even when I was retired, I still had to turn them down.#8221; Guy was a hard worker and took pride in caring for his family. He was an active member in his community, belonging to the Helena and Belgrade Volunteer Fire Departments, the East Helena Rodeo Association, and VFW Post 10010. He held positions with the Telephone Pioneers and spent many years at 4H camp, cooking and being a camp leader. Wherever there were large groups of hungry people, he would be over his propane griddle, feeding the masses, whether it was the Fireman#8217;s pancake breakfast, 4H camp, family reunions, or the Pioneer picnics. He spent a lot of time on Old Henry (his tractor) plowing gardens in springtime and plowing snow for neighbors when the need was there. Guy is survived and missed dearly by his sons and daughters-in-law, Allen (Carol) Betts of Billings, MT, John #8220;Sid#8221; (Gail) Betts of Dayton, WY, Guy #8220;Rick#8221; (Kim) Betts of Bonney Lake, WA, Cory (Jenifer) Betts of Spokane, WA, and James Kemp of Salome, AZ; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy (Bob) Bone of La Junta, CO, and Chris Betts and Cowboy of Livingston, MT; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Visitation will be at 9:00 am on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Dahl Funeral Chapel, with a funeral service to be held at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Fort Harrison Cemetery at 3:30 pm Monday. Memorials in Guy#8217;s name may be made to the Belgrade Volunteer Fire Department, 205 E Main St, Belgrade, MT 59714.
