Grace Thompson

May 17, 1920 — November 9, 2018

Grace Thompson was born on May 17, 1920 in Karlstad, Minnesota and graduated from high school there in 1938. She was the only child of Albert and Gena (Peterson) Thrane.

After high school, she attended beauty school in Minneapolis and moved to Chicago in 1940. She worked as a beautician and later an office worker for the Milwaukee Railroad. Grace’s family delighted in hearing stories of Chicago in the 1940’s.

In 1942, Grace married Jack Morrison in Chicago, where her only child, Jeffrey Morrison, was born.

Grace married Eugene Thompson in 1970 in Scobey, Montana. Together they moved to Browerville, Minnesota where Gene retired as superintendent of schools.

Throughout her life, Grace worked various jobs, all of which were meaningful to her. One of her first jobs was through the Public Works Program, rebinding books at a library for 25 cents an hour, a high paying job back then. Later in life, she volunteered with children, delighting in the joys of watching young children learn.

After Gene’s retirement, they became full time residents of Tucson, Arizona. Grace spent time doing still life and landscape painting and would occasionally play a round of golf with Gene. Grace’s family will miss her wonderful cooking and baking.

Grace died peacefully in her sleep at their home in Bozeman, Montana.

Grace is survived by son Jeffrey Morrison (Connie Tetrault); grandsons Eric and Josh Morrison; great-granddaughter Taylor Morrison and great great-granddaughter Nell Grace Sudderth. She is also survived by stepsons Michael (Adelle) Thompson and their daughter Katherine Liable; Mark (Barbara) Thompson and their sons Christopher and Blaise Jette and their daughter Elise Leister; Ernest (Polly) Gomez and their daughters Kathy, Val and Tammy.

Grace was preceded in death by her loving husband Gene, granddaughter Christine Thompson, and great-grandson Mikey Mad Plume.

We extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the staff of Highgate Senior Living and the staff of Bozeman Health Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Grace. They were definitely her extended family.

Grace’s remains will be interred with her husband at Fort Harrison, Montana.
