Dulcie Olive Klusmann

March 5, 1923 — October 19, 2016

Dulcie Olive May Klusmann, who died in her sleep on October 19th, 2016, was born in Wembley England in 1923. As a young girl she loved ice dancing and tennis. At age 19, based on tests where she scored high in math, the British government drafted her to help in the war effort. Bill, an American G.I., spotted her at a dance, found her both beautiful and mysterious, and before the war was over asked her to marry him. All she would tell him about her job was that she worked in a “hut” in a place called Bletchley Park, and that she was sworn to secrecy. Later she was able to reveal that she worked decoding German messages created by the Enigma machine. At the 50 year reunion of the 8th Army Air Corps in England, Queen Elizabeth was unable to attend and Dulcie was selected to present her speech thanking the veterans.

After the war she joined Bill in Bozeman. Later, when he was transferred to Billings with Eddy’s Bread, she worked in several women’s wear shops and enjoyed gardening, playing Scrabble, dancing, and being a dedicated mother.

Dulcie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and son, Neil. She is survived by her brother Fred (England), son Dan (Teresa) in Bozeman, daughter-in-law Debbie (Billings), niece Carolyn, four grandchildren (Jennifer, Sara, Jamie and Joe) and five great grandchildren.

She will be remembered as a true lady, for her sense of humor, and as a great storyteller. A very special thanks to the caregivers at Highgate Senior Living. Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to “Be the Match” which benefits patients suffering from blood diseases such as Leukemia, which took the life of her son, Neil.
