Douglas C. Miller

October 26, 1943 — November 23, 2010

Douglas C. Miller, Oct. 26, 1943 - Nov. 23, 2010 It was a snowy day on Nov. 23, 2010 when our beloved Doug passed away after a long illness. Now he is peaceful, healthy and whole with his Father in Heaven. Doug began his life in Brigham City, Utah on Oct. 26, 1943. It was wartime, and the son of Douglas and Mary Miller didn#8217;t see his father until he was almost two years of age. In later years, his family would listen as he told colorful stories of his youth, including summers spent with his grandparents picking fruit from the family orchard, having no indoor plumbing, newspaper on the walls, days and nights spent in the sheep wagon by himself at age 11, the high school football championship, and various pranks he played as a young boy. It was another world back then. As a young man, he served a mission in England. Upon returning home to Brigham City, he married Loreen Todd and together they had six children. After many years spent living and working as a commercial developer in Denver, he and his family relocated to West Yellowstone, where he owned a successful fly-fishing outfitter and guide shop. He also served as a member of city council and as a volunteer paramedic. In 1986, he married Betsy Cruwys and with her two children, formed a complete family of ten. Their journeys took them from Bozeman to Denver, San Diego, Boise, finally settling back in their beloved Bozeman, Montana. Upon returning to Bozeman, they formed Montana Perennial Farms, offering hardy perennials to the Gallatin Valley. Betsy and Doug were rarely apart, sharing every waking moment side by side. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Betsy; son Peter and daughter-in-law Jeanne, daughter Melissa Swafford and son-in-law Johan, son Josh and daughter-in-law Kalina, son Aaron and daughter-in-law Katie, son Tim and daughter-in-law Amber, daughter Emily Waterfall and son-in-law David , daughter Darcy Cruwys, son Darren Cruwys and daughter-in-law Shannon, 17 grandchildren, sister Maryann Thurgood, brother Jim Miller and sister-in-law Carol, brother Richard Miller and sister-in-law Cindy, and Christine Sorensen and brother-in-law Paul. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Douglas; mother, Mary; and brother, Michael.
