Dorothy Mae (Stewart) Grubbs passed from this world after a long bout with Alzheimer’s Disease Saturday, August 31, 2013. Dorothy is survived by: her husband of 64 years, William Grubbs; and four children, Bruce of Bozeman, MT, Kenneth of Steamboat Springs, CO, Jill Grumman of Evergreen, CO, and William Jr. of Moraga, CA. Dorothy was born in Ann Arbor, MI and graduated from Birmingham High School in Birmingham, MI. She attended Detroit Business College where she graduated with honors. After several secretarial positions she became the Private Secretary to the General Motors Press Officer. In the position Dorothy was involved in many new car introductions by General Motors. During this period she became a finalist for Miss Great Lakes. Dorothy married William (Bill) Grubbs in 1949. After a number of moves in the southern Michigan area they moved to Pine Lake, MI where Dorothy founded and became the first president of the Women’s Garden Club. In the early 70s, Dorothy designed the home she and Bill built on Upper Long Lake. They only had 2 years to enjoy it when Bill was transferred to Chicago.
