Donald George Stewart, 84, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, August 23, 2012. He was born December 1, 1927 in Tolna, North Dakota to George and Viola (Johnson) Stewart. Donald attended grade school and high school in Towner, North Dakota. He later received a Bachelor’s Degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo. Donald joined the United States Army and was 1st Lt. of the infantry division while he was stationed in Berlin, Germany and was a Pvt. Medical Technician while stationed in Munich, Germany. He was also a member of the National Guard in Rapid City, South Dakota and Fargo, North Dakota. Donald met Lois Fitzloff in Fargo, North Dakota and the couple later married October 15, 1955 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Throughout his banking career, Donald worked for Commercial Credit in Fargo, North Dakota and US Bank in Bozeman and Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was President of the South Dakota Bankers Association and also the President of the Kiwanis Club in Bozeman. Donald was also a Mason, Shriner and Jester. Donald was a life-long Republican and enjoyed fishing in Montana and Canada. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lois Stewart Leer. He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Lois Stewart; daughters Kaye (Ray) Stewart Hicks of Denver, Colorado and Beth (Dan) Stewart Siegienski of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; sons Todd (Nadine) Stewart of Martinez, California and Troy Stewart of Ashburn, Virginia; brother-in-law Sye Leer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made in Donald’s name to the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Spokane at http://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/Hospitals/Locations/Spokane.aspx or to a charity of your choice. A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at a later date.
