Devin Vincent Sexson

January 9, 1965 — May 20, 2015

Devin Vincent Sexson departed this life on May 20 in his fiftieth year, of natural causes, at his home in Missoula. Devin was born January 9, 1965, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, growing up in Bozeman and Syracuse. He studied art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and at Marylhurst University, graduating from the University of Montana in psychology. He worked in Missoula as a counselor for troubled youth. He restored antique furniture and had a lifelong love of woodworking. He wrote about social issues, was the best and spiciest cook, and was a photographer of nature’s reclamations. Devin was wise, compassionate, and filled with loving kindness. He is survived by his parents Michael and Lynda Sexson, his sister Vanessa, and his niece Devita, all of Bozeman. Their love for him transcends their loss. This is their favorite picture of Devin, glimpsing his sweetness and intelligence, and now echoing Bob Dylan’s words: Purple clover, Queen Anne lace Crimson hair across your face . . . . You're gonna have to leave me now, I know But I'll see you in the sky above In the tall grass, in the ones I love You're gonna make me lonesome when you go. A memorial gathering for Devin’s family and friends will be in Bozeman on June 20, 5 pm, in the Weaver Room of the Emerson Cultural Center. Cooper Park has just lost one of its trees. A new tree will be planted for the beauty of Devin and for the sake of the earth. Memorials may be sent to the Museum of the Rockies.
