Delmar Ray Richardson

Delmar Ray Richardson, 74, of Belgrade, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his home from natural causes. He was born April 22, 1939 in Wheatland, WY, the seventh child in a family of six boys and three girls to Ben and Gladys (McCartney) Richardson. Delmar attended first through eighth grade in Traer, KS and graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, KS. Delmar married the love of his life, Joy Long, on Valentine’s Day in 1960 in Oberlin, KS. Following their marriage they lived in McCook, NE before moving to Montana in 1978. In the early years, Delmar was a farmer. After moving to Bozeman, he became a big game guide and went into carpentry and construction until his retirement in 2011. Delmar loved working with wood; he could build, fix or repair anything. Delmar also served as a volunteer for the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Posse/Search and Rescue. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed horses. He was a teacher of home grown knowledge. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, six brother-in-laws and one sister-in-law. Survivors include his wife Joy of Belgrade, MT; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Jeff Sekavec of Billings, MT; son and daughter-in-law Del and Misti Richardson of Gallatin Gateway, MT; four grandchildren, Tyler Sekavec of Belgrade, MT, Tanner Sekavec of Billings, MT, and Caitlyn and Max Richardson of Gallatin Gateway, MT; three great grandchildren, Sienna, Hadrian and Kannon Sekavec of Billings, MT; and six siblings, Harold Richardson of McAllister, MT, Melba (Tom) McCoy of Belle Fourche, SD, Darlene Yarbrough of Laurel, MT, Donald (Janice) Richardson of Littleton, CO, Delores (Junior) Swaney of Cheyenne, WY, and Larry (Marjorie) Richardson of Olathe, KS. A celebration of Delmar’s life will be held at the Gallatin Gateway Community Center January 4, 1 PM to 4 PM. Come join us for food, drink & sharing of memories.
