Betty Kass

May 27, 1923 — August 2, 2011

Betty Kass passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the age of 88 after enduring Alzheimer#8217;s disease for many years. She had been residing at Highgate Senior Living in Bozeman since the spring of 2009. Betty was born on May 27, 1923 to Hazel and Richard Craven of Hazel Park, Michigan. She was the second of four lovely daughters. In 1946 she married Allan Kass, her husband of almost 60 years. She and Allan, who was an illustrator in the Detroit auto industry, raised their three daughters in Huntington Woods, Michigan. Betty enjoyed a life of skiing in northern Michigan, sailing on Lake St. Clair, and canoeing and camping with her family and like-minded friends. In 1974 she and her husband moved to Big Sky to continue enjoying an active lifestyle, as he continued his career as an illustrator. She always found that the work of her heart came from caring for her husband, daughters and grandchildren. Betty#8217;s kind-hearted spirit extended beyond her family to include involvement in her children#8217;s classrooms, and work as a leader for the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was a regular volunteer at libraries and polling places in both Detroit and Big Sky. Betty was also an extraordinary cook who loved nothing better than to prepare gourmet meals for family and friends. She also enjoyed her activities with the Gallatin Canyon Women#8217;s Club for several years. Betty is survived by her three daughters, Deborah Kass (Daniel Stein) of Fairfax, VA, Susan Johnson of Sedalia, CO and Lisa (Ordean) Anderson of Big Sky, MT. She also leaves behind two grandsons, Aaron Johnson of North Wales, PA and Tyler Johnson of Castle Rock, CO, plus three great-grandchildren, Avery, Julianna and Ellie. She has one remaining sister, Peggy Martell of Byron, MI. Betty also leaves behind many dear friends who will miss her warm and loving nature. Her husband, Allan, passed away in 2005 at the age of 87. There is no memorial service planned at this time, but contributions to the Alzheimer#8217;s Society (www.alz.org) or the hospice of your choice in Betty#8217;s name are always helpful.
