Alice Marie Aughney

ALICE MARIE AUGHNEY Alice Marie Aughney was born February 10, 1929 in Lewistown, Montana to Michael and Anna Aughney. She passed away April 5, 2015, in McMinnville, Oregon, at the age of 86. She moved to McMinnville in 2014 to be near family as her health declined. Her family lived in Denton, MT, then briefly in Harrison, MT before making their permanent home in Manhattan, MT. Her father owned and operated the local lumber yard. She attended school in Manhattan graduating from Manhattan High School in 1946. She attended Montana State College where she enjoyed her affiliation with Chi Omega sorority graduating in 1950 with a degree in Home Economics. After teaching school for two years in Bridger, she moved to Spokane, Washington in 1952 and worked for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph and at the Emporium. In 1956 she moved to San Francisco, California working for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph. Alice Marie returned to Montana in 1962 to attend Western Montana College in Dillon earning her Elementary Education Degree. Her elementary teaching career was with Washoe County District in Sparks, Nevada from 1963-1987. Alice Marie is survived by her sister, Joyce Aughney Milesnick, formerly of Belgrade, MT. She is also survived by nieces Susan Milesnick Sager, Jan Milesnick Davis (Paul), Ann Aughney Hall (Elmer), Sally Milesnick Sullivan (Tom), Barbara Aughney Bocci, Peggy Aughney Clay (Ed), and nephews Tom Milesnick (Mary Kay), Ted Milesnick (Patti), Jim Aughney, Dan Aughney (Dana), Mike Aughney (Diana), and John Aughney. Alice Marie is also survived by 28 great nieces and nephews and their families, and 17 great-great nieces and nephews. An avid reader herself, she volunteered to tutor elementary students with reading. She also was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed participating in political functions with close friend Margie Foote. Alice Marie actively followed the happenings of her extended family and will be missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Duane and Jack, sisters-in-law Rita and Rose Aughney, brother in-law J. Stanley Milesnick, niece Michelle Aughney and nephew Wade Aughney. The family would like to give special thanks to Maria and Peter Rogers of Sunset Hill Care Home in McMinnville for the compassionate, loving care they provided Alice Marie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10 at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Bozeman, Montana, followed by internment at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
