Adelaide Haraden

June 13, 1922 — April 5, 2017

Adelaide Cleaves Haraden passed on to her next adventure on April 5, 2017. She was born on June 13, 1922 at home in Old Town, Maine on the banks of the Penobscot River across from the Penobscot Indian Reservation.

Although she grew up in suburban Philadelphia (Swarthmore) she loved Maine and spent summers in Bar Harbor to escape the heat of the city. It was there she met her future husband, Bob Haraden. They were married April 27, 1946 after Bob was discharged from the US Navy following World War II. After three years at the University of Main, Bob got his degree as a Civil Engineer. They then embarked on a career in the Maine State Park System and the National Park Service, ultimately serving in Philadelphia, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, Californian, Grand Teton National Park Wyoming, Natchez Trace Parkway, Mississippi Alabama and Tennessee, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, Big Bend National Park in West Texas and Glacier National Park in Montana.

She and her husband then retired in January 1986 to Bozeman. They enjoyed 25 summers at their cabin on Seeley Lake, many extensive journeys and cruises around the world and annual fall trips to Maine to visit family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, son Carl of Bozeman, son Steve (Linda) of Billings along with assorted kids and grandkids, son Peter (Cara Lee) of Alamogordo, NM with assorted offspring, brother-in-law Gerard (Jane) of Bar Harber, ME and their sons, Tom and Jim. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and infant son, Ricky.

A Memorial Service for Adelaide will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22nd at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. Donations may be sent in Adelaide's honor to Hope Lutheran Church, located at 2152 Graf St. Bozeman, MT 59718 or Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter at 1549 E. Cameron Bridge Road, Bozeman, MT 59718.
